In this episode I speak with ANDREAS KISSER- guitarist for the ICONIC and LEGENDARY Brazilian Metal band SEPULTURA.
SEPULTURA’S 14th studio album, “MACHINE MESSIAH” is out NOW!
Early on in our chat, ANDREAS talks briefly about his admiration for the New Zealand ALL BLACKS (our national rugby team & world champions)
He has been with SEPULTURA since 1987’s SCHIZOPHRENIA, where he took over the role of lead guitar and forming a stable lineup for the band for the better part of a decade.
In addition to his work with SEPULTURA, over the years ANDREAS has worked on local movie soundtracks in Brazil, released work as a solo musician, appeared as guest musician and collaborated with a number of other artists, and appears alongside his son on Brazil’s RADIO ROCK
ANDERS FRIDEN vocalist for Melodic Metal band IN FLAMES!
The bands new upcoming album, “BATTLES” is due out 11th November 2016.
Originally from Gothenburg, Swedish they recorded this- their 12th, album in Los Angeles– a change for the band.
The bands sound continues to EVOLVE with each album, which might polarise fans of earlier records, but I feel that this album is an easy relisten as well as most of the songs being iconically inflames sounding.
Started the day off with an interview with Mexican-American Brutal Metallers Brujeria, and finished up with and interview with Swedish Adventure Metallers Twilight Force.
These interviews will be featured on next podcasts & upcoming music shows, so stay tuned for more info.
I spoke with Juan Brujo, front man for Legendary Mexican-American Metallers Brujeria are set to release their fourth full length album “Poncho Aztlan” on Mexican Indepence Day, September 16th.
Their songs are brutal, and the ideas they covered are ripped from the realities of the drug war, racial and border issues, with a spin of dark humour.
Second interview of the day was with Lindt, guitarist of Swedish Adventure / Power Metallers Twilight Force. The new album, Heroes of Mighty Magic is more or less out now, (26th August 2016). The album features a narrative running through the album based official lore of the band and the members as characters.
I just got off the phone with Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce. The band will be playing shows in New Zealand and Australia throughout the end of July. For more info and tickets check out: http://www.metropolistouring.com/drowningpool
The band is touring in support of their recent new album ‘Hellelujah’, and also recently made headlines after John Hetlinger, a contestant on an American talent show gave a performance of the bands hit song, ‘Bodies’- Mr Hetlinger was then invited to join the band on stage during a live performance at a festival show.
This interview will be featured in an upcoming episode of Heavy Metal Wanaka. (probably the next one as the tour is coming up rather shortly.)
I just got off the phone with Alex Erian, lyricist and one of two vocalists for the recently reunited Canadian band Despised Icon. Absolute monster / legend of the genre.
The band have a new album, “Beast”, their first for Nuclear Blast records, out July 22nd, and fans can get a taste of it with two music videos already out for the singles, “The Aftermath” [youtube] and “Beast” [youtube].
Alex mentioned he’d love for the band to tour down our way, or rather Aussie, but given the bands new look on life as a touring act, I’m paraphrasing & over simplifying but they’re taking things a bit easier for Despised Icon- maybe they could be convinced to spend a wee bit of time in picturesque Wanaka…
This interview will be featured on an upcoming episode Heavy Metal Wanaka.
